I was 68 years old when Tamsin showed me a newspaper cutting and said: “Do you think you might have this?”
It was ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. I thought that only affected children.
Two weeks later, I was told that not only did I have it, but that I was in the top 1% of the most severe cases. I can tell you that it is a profound emotional experience to have your whole life explained to you when you are almost at the end of it.
First, you have to come to terms with it. I did this by writing a book. It took me six years, and it turned out to be quite the best kind of therapy. The book is called Faster, Louder, Riskier, Sexier: A wonderful life with ADHD, and you can find a link on the books page. I am intensely proud of it and have been told it is the best thing I have ever done.
All the same, I would rather be free of some of the more annoying symptoms. For instance, finding a contract too boring to read cost us £350,000…
I could have taken psychotic drugs, but I refused to do that after a terrifying experience with a homoeopathic remedy, which was supposed to cure my forgetfulness. Instead, I suffered the most terrifying violent urges. Quite literally, it was like being possessed.
But then last year, I saw ADHD on the list of conditions exacerbated by an Omega-6:Omega-3 imbalance and was intrigued enough to get myself tested. This was a shock because I had been taking an Omega-3 supplement for years. But I researched the two topics “Omega-6 Omega-3 imbalance.” & “Polyphenols removed during fish oil purification.”
The gist of the story is that Omega-3 and Omega-6 are both essential to nutrition – which is why they are known as Essential Fatty Acids, or EFAs. Neither can be manufactured in the body, so must form part of the diet.
Omega-6 is most abundant in common vegetable oils such as corn and sunflower, and consequently, most processed foods. Omega-3 is found in fish, leafy green vegetables, canola oil and walnuts.
The ideal diet contains a balance of EFAs: Three parts of Omega-6 to one part of Omega-3, yet the modern diet produces a ratio of as much as 20:1 or, among children in the USA, even 25:1. This imbalance is now being linked to a long list of serious conditions, including:
Heart attack
- Stroke
- Cancer
- Obesity
- Insulin resistance
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- Arthritis
- Lupus
- Depression
- Schizophrenia
- Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder
- Postpartum depression
- Alzheimer’s disease
More than just preventing disease, the correct balance enhances good health by optimising the elasticity of all the cells in the body.
This has a particularly beneficial effect on:
Brain function
Heart function
Blood pressure
The immune system
Eyesight
Bones and teeth
Brain and eye development of the foetus and breastfed infants
Blood pressure
Oxidative stress.
Laboratory animals, fed a diet low in Omega-3 had trouble finding their way out of a maze, gained weight, indulged in self-destructive behaviour and lost the desire to explore. When implanted with cancer cells, their tumours grew faster, larger and were more invasive.
A study of 800 US service personnel who had committed suicide, when compared to a control group of similar age and rank, found that those who died were 62% more likely to have low Omega-3 levels.
While the solution might seem simple: Take an Omega-3 supplement, people have been doing that for years and still succumb to the ailments listed above.
But now, the independent Vitas Analytics laboratory in Oslo has tested 1.5million people and found that 97% had an imbalance in their Omega-6:Omega-3 levels – even those taking a daily Omega-3 supplement.
The reason lies in the way fish oil is processed for the health supplement industry: Contaminants such as mercury have to be removed, but the standard process also strips away polyphenols, which are essential for absorbing the product into the body.
The oil developed by the Norwegian Zinzino company is different (and patented) and corrects the imbalance within four months. In my case, the ratio halved from 6:1 to less than 3:1 (2.8 to be exact). It is difficult to quantify the benefit, but I have certainly been more productive.
In order to find out whether your Omega ratio is out of balance, you take a test at home – it’s a simple finger-prick. The results are emailed to you within 10-20 days. If you are indeed among the 97% in the danger zone, this oil will bring you back into balance. If you are already in the safe zone, you get a full refund – even if you have opened the bottle. After four months, you take the second test to make sure.
On the website below, you will see two prices: “BalanceOil with Test Kit – Start Kit £189” and, underneath: “+ Subscription £39 a month”.
This means that your regular payment will be £39 a month, but the first payment of £189 will cover the two test kits, which would cost £326 if bought separately, as well as two 100ml bottles of oil for when you fly and are limited to 100ml of liquids in your hand luggage.
The subscription is a commitment for six months, but if it turns out you don’t need it, you get the refund.
Everything you need is on the website below. To order your test kits and the oil, go to Shop>>Premier Kits>>Omega Supplement Kits and choose one with the tests.

I will receive something from the company as a “thank-you” for promoting them. I hope you won’t object to this.
